instruction includes detailed breakdown
and progression of dance movements for easy learning.
She breaks down movements by explaining which
muscles to use and uses imagery
and visualization techniques to help
explain how the movement works. As everyone learns differently,
Sahira will try several approaches until you understand
the movement. Additionally, feedback in Sahira's classes
is personalized. Each student receives personal
attention when they are struggling with a movement.
HUMAN MOVEMENT & PERFORMANCE
Sahira's degree in Kinesiology has
given her a thorough background in human anatomy, anatomical
function, biomechanics, and human performance. This
background allows her to give accurate instruction and
feedback. Her curriculum is designed to include movements
which are biomechanically safe, or have been modified
to possess safe biomechanics, ensuring no harm to the
body’s joints. Sahira has been registered as a
personal trainer with the Alberta Fitness
Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA). Her background
in personal training and group fitness classes
allow her to structure her classes to prevent and correct
poor posture and muscle imbalances. Sahira
also has her Level 1 and 2 certification with the National
Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Her
experience in coaching various sports such as skiing,
mountain biking, and gymnastics has given her excellent
lesson planning skills, as well as a good eye for catching
mistakes and offering corrections.
In order to help learn this beautiful,
but tricky dance, Sahira has put together online
practice tools for the belly dance movements
learned in class. These video clips
are available for those taking lessons who wish to review
what they learned in class, or to just run through the
exercises for practice purposes or as a workout session.
Choreographies learned in class are also available in
video and/or written format.
